A Squam Lake Historical Property

The Cottage Place on Squam Lake, A Squam Lake Historical Property. formerly The Black Horse Motor Court, has been a family vacation destination since 1957 when built by Milton Graton, NH's leading expert on covered bridge construction and restoration. His son Arnold has maintained the family heritage with several restored covered bridges within a few miles, notably Grafton's famous arched bridge over the Squam River, just one mile away. Autographed copies of his fascinating and informative book about covered bridges are available from our gift shop.

The area boasts Squam Lake, Little Squam Lake, and Squam River, comprising over 7100 acres. Squam Lake is NH's second largest lake, and giant Lake Winnipesaukee is just 9 miles away, offering even more Lakes Region fun & activities. Squam Lake was the setting for the 1981 Academy Award winning film On Golden Pond, earning Oscars for both Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn for their heartwarming performances.
